Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson born to British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby & Chris Watson in Paris, France. The couple moved to Oxfordshire in the year she turned five years old and attended an academy called the Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor at age six. Over the course of several years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing dance, acting and singing. As early as age ten she was involved and performed the main role in a number of Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was first cast in 1999. Emma was identified by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theater teacher. After eight consecutive auditions, director David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast as the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first cinematic appearance was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The film broke all records for the opening weekend and sales, and it was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Film critics praised the film as well as its performances by the three leading young actors. The well-known British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma received the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for an feature Film. She was later recognized five times in recognition of her performance in the movie.
